2002 National Specialty Show Results

October 18 - 20th, 2002

The first Frenchie event of the day happened before the first Judge stepped foot in the ring.  Babette and I had to be on TV for an interview about the upcoming Specialty and All-Breed shows.  It was aired throughout Southwestern Ontario which I am sure contributed to the flood of spectators at the show.

The days events started off with the All-Breed Show with Shirley Limoges judging.  Our Best of Breed who went on to Group First was Ch. Robobull's Simply SinGin and the our Best Puppy in Breed, Daulokke's Mademoiselle J'Adore went all the way to win Best Puppy in Show.

Roseann Devault then took over for our Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes.  Robobull Fabelhaft Xcelsior went on to win the Puppy Sweeps with Imperiale's Marilyn Monroe taking Best of Opposite Sex.  The Veteran's Sweeps was won by CH Kishniga's Imperiale Vicomte and Best of Opposite Sex being won by El Torro's Sweet Jasmine.

After all that competing it was time for a little fun and so we headed to the Delta Armouries Hotel for the Bullytin Party hosted by Arlie Alford and assisted by her daughter Nessie.  The first order of events was the famous costume contest.  Linda Maingot brought her Bijou dressed as a Mardi Gras Queen in a very fancy costume to win the Contest.  Arlie brought wonderful books for all the costume contest entrants and so we all went away as winners.

We needed a judge for the Canadian Cup so Arlie asks me, "Have you ever bred a litter of French Bulldogs?" and when I answered "Yes", she says' "Good, you are the Judge".  Panic-stricken I had a little time to relax as we enjoyed a beautiful BBQ Buffet before the Canadian Cup.  Well, I thought I am just going to pick the dog I would want to take home with me and that is what I did.  I selected a young puppy as my BOB in Fabelhaft Smash Mouth handled beautifully by Sarah Kennedy.  Best of Opposite Sex went to Karen Cram's little BMF bitch The Diva at Karendon and the Judges Special Award went to Imperiale's Marilyn Monroe.  That was a great way to end a very fun but very busy evening and day.

The second day started out in the All Breed ring with Dr. Richard (Dick) Meen judging.  It was another big day for Frenchies as Dr. Dorit Fischler took Best of Breed and then Group First with the beautiful CH Belboulecan Hungarian Zsa Zsa.  As soon as the All Breed ring was finished we had to head for the Specialty ring where Charles Satchell was waiting for us.

With 53 Frenchies entered Charles began weeding out his classes.  This was a very tough job as many of the class dogs here were big time US Specials dogs so the competition was extremely tough.  The trophy table was loaded up with all kinds of great Frenchie items that everyone was pining over.

Charles picked a wonderful pup as his Best of Breed/ Best in Specialty Show (BISS), Chris Heagle's well bred CH Platinum Royal Albert handled superbly by Frank Mills.  Dr. Dorit Fischler took Best of Opposite Sex with our Saturday Group First winner, CH Belboulecan Hungarian Zsa Zsa.  The trophies were awarded and it was time to head to the banquet and auction back at the hotel.  By the time we had gotten out of the ring it was almost time for dinner but the hotel was able to hold things off until we were able to arrive.

The auction bidding started right away with prices soaring on many items.  Charles Satchell had brought a gorgeous crystal piece from a very limited edition of Dartington Crystal (we had number 10 of 10) with his beautiful Emma, the Enchantress adorning this wonderful iceberg crystal.  Linda Maingot had once again done fantastic looking water colour Frenchies to decorate our walls for the banquet.  When dinner was over they too were auctioned off, for huge money for the Club.  Everyone in attendance was more than generous and through the auction and raffle they put our club over the top and into the black ink for our show.  Thank you to both those that donated these items and to those that bid so highly on them.  We could not have done this without you.

After a totally scrumptious dinner (mine absolutely melted in my mouth) Karen Cram talked about our club and how we are doing and then turned the floor over to Roseann Devault and Charles Satchell to talk on their entries.  Arlie Alford then spoke on the Canadian dogs as well as our Canadian Club and where we have gone since our inception.  We didn't get out of there until quite late as nobody really wanted to leave.

After a very short night of sleep it was back to the dog show for an early start as our Club President Karen Cram judged the All Breed Sweepstakes for London Canine.  Shortly after she was done it was on to the Junior Handling ring so the younger ones could try their hand at showing French Bulldogs.

First up was an under-ager who we had to make a special and new class for, Pre-Peewee.  She was just about 3. The LCA Show Chair's granddaughter, Danielle went in with my Hugo, who fortunately knew his way around the ring.  She needed some help getting Hugo up on the table and was just able to hold on to his collar while he was looked over by our Junior Handling Judge Chris Cram.  I heard afterwards that her brother was getting a little upset by the end of the day over everyone fawning over her as to how cute that looked.  Chris Cram did a marvelous job of putting the older Juniors through all their paces and once again Hugo was in the ring with who he loves most, kids.  Well the girl handling him won the Overall Best Junior Handler.  Arlie Alford's daughter Nessie even tried her hand at it and did quite well.  I think you may have a future Handler for your dogs there Arlie.

Now it was just about time for the All Breed rings again, this time with John Reeve-Newson judging.  This time CH Robobull Fabelhaft Xcelsior took Best of Breed to finish his Canadian Championship in the 3 shows he was entered in up here.  Romeo also went on to win Group First making it 3 days in a row of Frenchies winning the Group.

After the last show it was time to say goodbye to all the other exhibitors and for many to say goodbye to a great weekend in London.  We hope to see all of you again! - Gary Brown
